This year Wamberal Surf Life Saving Club ran the Wamberal Whales, which is nippers for children with disabilities or children on the autism spectrum. We ran the program and only two clubs that ran throughout the entire summer. We had 19 fantastic kids each working with a volunteer every Sunday morning in activities such as swimming, board riding, treasure hunts and building sand castles.
The highlights were that prior to the Wamberal Whales some of these children had never been to the beach, never swum in the ocean and never belonged to a sporting organisation. The feedback from parents was overwhelmingly positive with the children’s physical coordination improving, becoming socially confident and just enjoying the beach. The program also allowed their brothers and sisters to join nippers and gave parents the opportunity of having a small well-deserved break.
If you are interested in having your child participate, please contact the club.
